What to Bring With you to Inpatient Drug Rehab

You should know what is truly important to take to inpatient drug rehab.

You should know what is truly important to take to inpatient drug rehab.

Once you’ve decided to get help, you’ve chosen an inpatient drug rehab center for your treatment needs and you’ve decided on a date to be admitted to the program you’ll have to start packing your bags for your extended stay in treatment. What do you bring? Some things are not acceptable in inpatient drug rehab programs but you will be permitted to bring certain things with you. While this list will likely differ a bit from one program to the next, these are some of the items that you’ll want to consider bringing with you when you go into treatment:

  • clothes – your clothes must not be provocative or have any messages of profanity on them. Bring everyday clothing and make sure that you have comfortable clothes such as sweats, pajamas, and loose fitting items that will make you feel comfortable.
  • Swimwear if the rehab center has a pool – many rehab centers do have pools, saunas, and even jacuzzis so you may want to bring a swimsuit. For men, swimsuits must be shorts and not speedos (these would be considered provocative) for women, swimsuits should be one-piece.
  • Any prescription medications that you are taking – these must be approved by your doctor and they will later have to be approved by the facility in which you are admitted. Medications must be labeled with your name, the name of the drug, the dosage to be administered and the frequency of administration.
  • Money – though you won’t likely need money during independent days in treatment there could be outings in which you might want to have some spending money. Most of the time, the inpatient rehabilitation program will place your money in a locked safe that protects it from others and they will then administer cash to you as need for outings.
  • Identification & Insurance Information – If you have health insurance you may want to have that with you at treatment. You’ll also need your state issued identification card or license. These items will be necessary for outings and are also good to have with you at all times.
