Rehab Centers for Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a form of mental psychosis that is one of many types of psychotic disorders. Rehab centers that treat mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, and delusions can also provide treatment for schizophrenia in the form of counseling and medication. Approximately 1 percent of all Americans suffer some form of schizophrenia and require the assistance of a mental rehab center or treatment to help.
Depending on the type of schizophrenia that a person suffers from, the treatment may include psychotherapies, anti-psychotic drugs and other medications. Commonly used medications that treat symptoms of schizophrenia include Fluphenazine, Perphenazine and Haloperidol but there are many different medications on the market to treat the delusions, hallucinations and other symptoms associated with this mental disorder.
For some very extreme cases of schizophrenia, treatment may include Electroconvulsive therapy which involves sending electrical currents into the patient’s brain to promote seizure that will change the chemistry in the brain. This type of therapy is not commonly used for treating schizophrenia but in very severe cases it is a possibility when medications and other treatments do not seem to help.
Mental disorder rehab centers that provide psychotherapy in conjunction with medication are most likely to help individuals who suffer from schizophrenia. For schizophrenic individuals who suffer from hallucinations, medications provide the best benefit but for those who suffer delusions psychotherapy may be of greater assistance in recovery. Ultimately, a mental rehab center that provides a combination of treatments for schizophrenia will be most beneficial to individuals who suffer from this psychotic disorder.
