Relationship Problems Associated with Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse
Alcohol abuse can cause serious relationship problems!
Negative consequences are a daily occurrence with both alcoholism and with alcohol abuse. People who abuse alcohol get into trouble but the consequences of such trouble can greatly determine whether an individual suffers from alcoholism or from alcohol abuse. Individuals who abuse alcohol still have some control over their drinking and have fewer relationship problems than those who suffer from alcoholism.
Alcoholics suffer many relationship problems as a result of their alcoholism. Many alcoholics will have a full awareness of their drinking problem and they even want to change but despite efforts to try to stop drinking they have no control over their actions. Alcohol treatment is necessary to help those who suffer from serious relationship problems as a result of their drinking.
Relationship problems associated with alcoholism may be irreparable. For instance, people who drink heavily may not spend time with their family. Despite their knowing that they are drinking too much or too often, they may become defensive when family members discuss their drinking habits with them. Such defensive attitudes can cause additional relationship problems.
Alcohol abuse may also cause relationship problems but on a smaller and more easy to deal with scale than alcoholism. For instance, people who abuse alcohol may find that their family members are unhappy with their drinking and as a result they give up drinking in order to maintain positive family relationships. Alcohol abuse differs from alcoholism in ways that cause less havoc in relationships.
