Does the Type of Rehab Center Matter?

The type of rehab does matter. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the type and style of rehab and treatment is extremely important. The treatment has to fit the person who needs it. Many treatment centers have a variety of treatment options available, but to choose the right one you need to understand the types of treatment centers available.

Physical Rehab

Physical rehab is generally for those who have a physical illness or injury. It is a place where you can receive therapy as well as rest and recuperation. Many physical rehabs are attached to hospitals and have agreements with them. When doctors treat a complex injury or perform a surgical procedure, it is normal for them to prescribe a period of rehab to help the injury heal. These rehabs also sometimes double up with opiate addiction facilities.

Psychological Rehab

Psychological or mental health rehab is similar to physical rehab except that they treat psychological illnesses instead of physical ones. People who are having trouble coping with or need treatment for a mental illness go into a psychological rehab. Psychological rehabs often have areas where they treat drug addiction along with mental illness.

Behavioral Addiction Rehab

Type of Rehab

The types of treatment offered varies by rehab based on what condition the particular facility treats.

Behavioral or process addictions are extremely difficult to deal with. Many people have issues with behaviors such as:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Gambling Addiction
  • Sexual Addictions
  • Food Addictions

Therapists and psychologists deal with these issues by finding and treating the cause of the behavior. This is usually accomplished in a rehab environment. These behavioral addiction rehabs often accept those with drug addictions as well.

Multiple Addiction Rehab

Multiple addiction rehabs deal with co-morbid disorders such as a behavioral addiction coupled with a drug addiction or a mental illness coupled with a drug addiction. Therapists and doctors in these rehab facilities are trained to deal with multiple issues at the same time.

Alcohol Rehab

Alcohol rehab facilities usually only deal with alcohol addiction. Since alcohol addiction is so prevalent in today’s society, there are rehab centers devoted entirely to alcohol abuse and addiction. Here they help you resist the temptation to drink. They also help you deal with the situations and problems that caused you to drink in the first place.

Drug Rehab

Drug rehab centers treat a variety of drug addiction issues. Some rehabs treat a single drug addiction while others specialize in multiple addictions. Each addiction is a bit different. Different treatments work for different addictions and when there are multiple addictions, things become even more complex. Drug rehab centers are designed to deal with these complexities. Most centers have specialists depending on which types of addiction they treat.
