New Treatment Center Opens in Syracuse

Syracuse has a new, state-funded addiction treatment center called the CUSE Recovery Community and Outreach Center. This facility will offer New Yorkers in the Syracuse area the chance to recover safely from opioid and other types of drug addiction syndromes. Among its treatment options will be peer group support, social games and activities, workforce training, and a drug-free setting where individuals can avoid relapse.

The state has been attempting to open more and more facilities of this type so residents can get the help they need for addiction and substance abuse. A recovery program in Rochester closed down in order to move to a new location, but state officials say it will be opening its doors again very soon. Officials hope these facilities will help fight the opioid epidemic in New York, not to mention the other substance abuse problems that are continuing to plague the state and the rest of the country.

Is Treatment Necessary for Recovery?

In most cases, yes. It is extremely difficult to recover safely from a substance use disorder without the help of a professional treatment program. Most individuals are able to start out their recoveries in detox centers and then move on to rehab treatment in order to achieve a well-rounded recovery.

• Attending treatment in one of these facilities, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, can help a person avoid relapse for much longer and much more effectively than those who do not seek treatment.
• In addition, these facilities help patients
o Function better at home
o Find jobs or improve their functioning at work
o Decrease their criminal activity
o Determine the reasons that led to their substance abuse in the first place

All of these assets are invaluable to a safe recovery, and it is extremely hard to make these changes and to keep them without professional care.

How Can I Get Treatment If I Don’t Have Money?

Many people avoid seeking addiction treatment because they don’t believe they will be able to pay for it. The truth is, however, that there are many options that can help you pay for addiction treatment.

• According to a 2008 study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 76.3 percent of treatment centers in the United States offer at least some type of payment assistance. This could come in the form of
o Free treatment
o Partially free treatment
o A sliding-fee scale
o Facility grants
• Insurance can also help pay for addiction treatment. Most plans will cover at least part of your care, especially those sold on the Healthcare Marketplace.
• Many people ask family members and friends to help them raise money to pay for their addiction treatment. This can be easy if everyone chips in a little.
• Finally, if you do still have a large, out-of-pocket cost, some facilities will offer you the opportunity to finance your treatment and pay in intervals over time.
