According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, not all treatments work for everyone. This is why finding a treatment center that fits your needs is so important. There are some basic things that all treatment centers should have.
Accreditation
The treatment center you choose should be accredited by the:
Joint Commission,
the National Committee for Quality Assurance,
All States, and
the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
These are all regulatory agencies for rehabilitation centers. Most good centers have their accreditation and licensing displayed somewhere in the building where it is easy to see. If you do not see it, ask about it.
On each accreditation, there is a type and a year. Make sure the type of accreditation is one-year, three-year, or possibly provisional. What you do not want to see is accreditation with stipulations. An accreditation with stipulations is one that the facility needs to correct something that is wrong before they can get full accreditation back.
In addition to accreditation, the facility should also be a licensed rehab facility. The government grants licenses to the different facilities.
Treatment Types
Individual counseling is a standard treatment option at most rehabs.
Although not all facilities offer all treatment types a few are standard for any recovery program. The standard treatment types are:
Any good treatment program has these things. The program should offer different options for counseling and medication management. Not ever treatment type works well for each person. The more choices offered the more likely you are going to find a treatment program that works for you. Do not be afraid to try multiple treatment methods.
Aftercare
Every treatment program should have aftercare. Since even the longest inpatient treatments do not fully cure addiction, aftercare or continuing care is crucial to being able to fully recover. A compete aftercare program often consists of:
Some aftercare programs include 12 step programs and other community based care options. Most treatment centers have aftercare already built into their treatment programs but some do not. Make sure you can work out a plan for when you leave treatment.
Treatment Plans
A treatment plan is a plan of action for your recovery. They contain goals and outcomes for your recovery. Your doctor, your therapist, and you should develop this plan in a comprehensive rehab program. It should include:
your goals,
your therapy,
your medical visits and management, and
your aftercare program.
In order for the treatment plan to be complete each of these things needs to be defined, measurable, and obtainable for the time you have in the facility.
These are just the basic criteria for a comprehensive rehab program. There are many other things that you might want or need depending on your individual addiction. For more information on comprehensive treatment programs and what they should consist of call use at 888-646-0635Who Answers?.
