Do Free Drug Rehab Centers Provide Medication?

addiction medications

Medication is often a necessary part of drug addiction recovery.

So. Here you are- You with the addiction to cocaine; You with the addiction to meth; You with the addiction to opiates. You have found yourself right smack in the middle of a raging addiction that you have no control over. You feel helpless and scared. You want to get help for your addiction but you don’t have a clue where to start and even worse, you don’t have any money. You’re afraid that if you go to your local health department ask for assistance in getting treatment that you might not get the best care or that you might have to for-go some of the things that would be included in a treatment center that didn’t offer their services for free or at a shared cost.

You should know that all drug treatment centers that would be approved by medicaid or other public assistance programs are required to adhere to strict guidelines regulated by the federal government so they are not allowed to skimp on your care just because you can’t afford it.

Do Free Drug Rehab Centers Provide Medication During Treatment?

You might be concerned that by going to a free drug rehabilitation center for your drug treatment that you might not be prescribed medications that ease the symptoms of withdrawal during the detoxification process and sometimes even longer for maintenance from drugs like heroin and synthetic opiate drugs. This just isn’t true.

Drug rehabilitation centers often offer their services at no charge or at a reduced cost for those that cannot afford it and some accept Medicaid and other public funding. They offer medical treatment as well as counseling and behavioral therapy just like any other drug facility which includes medications and counseling to help ease the physical and psychological symptoms of withdrawal and according to NIDA, “Research shows that TCs (Treatment Centers) can be modified to treat individuals with special needs, including adolescents, women, homeless individuals, people with severe mental disorders, and individuals in the criminal justice system”.

Personalized Treatment

Symptoms of withdrawal can vary depending on the kind of drug you have an addiction to. Opiate withdrawal symptoms are often thought to be the hardest to endure physically but drugs like cocaine and crystal meth seem to have worse psychological side effects because of the way cocaine affects the brain. Your facility staff will work up a treatment program that will be personalized depending on your needs.

While it might not include the fancy room or oceanside view that some luxury drug rehab centers provide, all the aspects needed for full recovery from your addiction will be available to you. If it is an inpatient facility you might share a room with several people and help to prepare and clean up after meals, maintain your own laundry and even have assigned chores that you are responsible for to help maintain the facility grounds. If your doctor thinks that outpatient treatment will be a better option, then you will make regular scheduled visits to an outpatient facility so that your medication can be monitored and for counseling sessions and behavioral therapy.
