15 Signs You Need Drug Rehab

rehab for drug addiction

Rapid mood swings, depression, and other symptoms show that a person may be in need of drug abuse help.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, drug addiction is similar to other chronic, relapsing diseases, such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease, and just like these other diseases, drug addiction can be managed successfully. However, it is common for a person to relapse and begin abusing drugs again, but this just means that their treatment should be altered.

If a person has an addiction to a particular drug, they will have uncontrollable urges to find and use this drug. These urges are so powerful that they may result in a person becoming violent to get the drug, or committing crimes to get the drug. Drug addiction can take control over a person’s life.

Fifteen Signs a Person Needs Drug Rehab

  1. Rapid mood swings: Mood swings occur for different reasons when a person is addicted to drugs. Their brain chemicals will constantly be altered from their drug abuse, so mood swings are a common sign of drug addiction or abuse.
  2. Depression: This is most commonly seen when a person does not have the drug in their system.
  3. Lack of interest: When a person is addicted to a drug, their drug use is their main focus and other activities become meaningless.
  4. Difficulty holding on to jobs: A person with a drug addiction may commonly get fired due to their drug use.
  5. Financial instability: Drug addiction is expensive, and most people suffer financially from it.
  6. Losing friends: Since drug use is the main focus in a user’s life, their friends may begin to stop hanging out with them, or they may pull away from their friends.
  7. Pulling away from family: A person addicted to a drug may stop seeing their family, or limit their time with their family.
  8. Compulsive urges: A person addicted to drugs will feel the need to constantly have them.
  9. Violent behavior: An addict who does not have their drug of choice around may become violent or easily tempered to those around them.
  10. Withdrawals: If a person begins to have withdrawal symptoms when they reduce their drug use, or when they no longer have any of the drugs in their system, they may need drug rehab.
  11. Not going to work or school: If the effects of the drugs are stopping a user from handling their responsibilities, they should get help. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, drug addiction and abuse can have destructive public health and safety repercussions, such as loss of jobs, family disintegration, failure in school, child abuse, and domestic violence.
  12. Physical health problems: If a person notices physical health problems from their drug usage and they continue to use the drug, they should get help.
  13. Insomnia: Sleep problems, like insomnia, may begin to occur due to a person’s body getting rid of the drug when they sleep.
  14. Lack of motivation: A person addicted to drug may not find passion or have motivation for the things they use to.
  15. Loss of relationships: Aside from pulling away from family and friends, a person with a drug addiction will commonly begin to have problems in their relationship with their significant other.
