New Highway Safety Ads to Air During Braves Games

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety recently funded the making of three advertisements, which will be shown during Atlanta Braves baseball games. Among these are ads that promote following the speed limit, wearing one’s seatbelt, and perhaps most crucially, avoiding drunk driving. The DUI spot is especially important for sports fans to see, as watching games either live or on television is usually accompanied by large amounts of alcohol abuse. These spots are set to air during 90 different telecasts at the least on the Fox Sports South channel.

“It’s an idea that I’ve had on the table for several years, and we just finally found the right situation for us,” said GOHS Director Harris Blackwood. “The spots will change to match up, for example, with our Click It or Ticket program.” While the spots were only just filmed on March 22, 2018, Blackwood hopes to have them ready for Thursday’s season opener. “We’re turning it around pretty quickly.”

Is Drinking Addictive?

Like other types of dangerous substances that cause euphoria, alcohol can be addictive. People who drink large quantities every day are likely to become dependent on the substance as well, but even those who drink large amounts in one sitting are putting themselves and others in danger. • 40 percent of annual alcohol-related deaths in the state are due to chronic causes.
• 22 percent are due to homicide and suicide.
• 20 percent are due to motor-vehicle crashes
• 18 percent are due to other acute causes.

In the United States, alcohol use is fairly common, but it is still important to remember that dangerous side effects can result from misusing this substance. If one were to drink too much in one sitting, drink chronically for many years, or drink and drive, deadly results can occur.

Do I Need Alcohol Detox?

According to the National Library of Medicine, the more you drink regularly, the more likely you are to experience alcohol dependence and to require treatment for alcohol withdrawal if you try to stop. This is known as alcoholism, and treatment normally starts with detox and then moves to rehab. In fact, detox is so important that most rehab centers provide access to detox during your early days of recovery.

Alcohol detox is often a part of addiction treatment, especially for alcoholics, but it should be followed by rehab in order for you to recover fully.
