How to Get a Loved One into Addiction Treatment Now
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a person does not necessarily need to want to go to rehab in order for rehab to work. This means coerced or forced rehab does still have a chance to get your loved one back on the right path. There are a number of ways to go about getting someone to go to rehab when they do not want to go. A few of the ways involve them going for you and a few involve getting others involved.

Talk to Them About it
The first thing that you need to do is talk to your loved one about rehab. Talking to your loved one is extremely important. Sometimes they will surprise you, other times they will do what you expect. They will argue, scream, deny, lie, and evade. The goal of this talk is to make sure that they know you care and to try to discern what they want. Their lies and evasions sometimes give them away and sometimes they do not.
On rare occasions, they might agree to go to rehab. Sometimes they need incentives. One of the incentives is to explain to them that you will pay for rehab or help them find one. Another incentive is to tell them that you wonât lend them money or pay their bills if they do not go to rehab.
Do an Intervention
Interventions sometimes work if your loved one is willing to listen. You have to be careful with interventions because your loved one might feel like you are ganging up on them. In a way, that is what an intervention is. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. It is important to let the people who need to speak, say their piece. Many times an intervention works because a single person says something that touches the addict in a way that no one else can.
Get Others Involved
Having multiple people voice their concerns to your loved one may help encourage them to seek treatment.
Different people mentioning the addiction and rehab at different times, sometimes makes a loved one understand that they need help. Many people find that they need rehab when multiple people noticed the addiction. For some reason sometimes, it sinks in. When others are involved in talking to them at different times, in ways that are not confrontational, sometimes the message gets through.
There are Doctors and Legal Ways to Get Someone into Addiction Treatment
There are ways to have someone put into rehab involuntarily in most states. If the person is a harm to themselves or others, you can have them put into a treatment facility for at least 72 hours. Then it is a matter for a doctor to decide whether or not they go to addiction treatment. Many do decide to go after a 72 hour hold while others do not. It just depends on the opinion of the doctor and sometimes the courts.
Plan Ahead Before you do Anything
Before you even talk to them, it is important to plan ahead. The first thing that you would need to do is to find a reputable rehab center to help. For more information or to find one, call 888-646-0635Who Answers?.
