Long Term Benefits of Alcohol Rehab

There are many benefits you will benefit from alcohol rehab.

There are many benefits you will benefit from alcohol rehab.

The effectiveness of alcohol rehab programs is largely defined by the length of the program as well as the services that are offered as part of the alcohol treatment. While alcohol addiction is can be an overwhelming problem for both the addict and the loved one’s of those suffering from an addiction, there is help and there is hope. The light at the end of the tunnel may just be in the length of the alcohol rehab program that you attend.

There are typically two types of alcohol treatment programs: Inpatient alcohol treatment and outpatient alcohol treatment. Each of these types of alcohol rehab differ in the type of services that are provided to the addict and their family or loved ones. Typically an outpatient alcohol treatment program is the most effective type of treatment for alcohol addiction for a number of reasons. Here’s a look at the long term benefits associated with both an inpatient and an outpatient alcohol rehab program:

Benefits of Alcohol Rehab

Both inpatient and outpatient alcohol rehab comes with the benefit of providing recovery options for those addicted to alcohol. In addition to helping an addict recover, each of these types of alcohol rehab also provide the addict with the tools necessary to function actively in society and to learn how to live without alcohol as a part of daily life.

Scientific evidence suggests that alcohol rehab which changes the behaviors that an individual takes part in is effective at helping to remove the alcohol addiction and to prevent future relapse. For an addict, the most beneficial part of an alcohol rehab program is the fact that they are taught new behaviors that can dramatically change the way that they act, function or react in society thus preventing the use of alcohol as a means of coping or as a way of reacting to stress or other life complications.

Detoxification is vital to the success of any rehab program but for someone suffering from alcoholism detoxification is also vital to the individual. Eliminating alcohol from the body allows the individual to begin to recover from the long term effects that alcohol has on the organs and the nervous system. Short term detox or weekend programs have not been proven to be effective at treating alcoholism. This is because the addict must not only be detoxed and free from alcohol but they must also treat the psychological problems associated with the addiction to alcohol. Following detox, an alcohol rehab program will begin to provide behavior changing treatment to help the addict overcome the psychological addiction that accompanies alcoholism.

In order for alcohol rehab to be most effective, the addict must attend a 30-90 day rigorous treatment program that includes behavioral counseling, group and individual counseling and therapy to effectively rehabilitate them from the addiction to alcohol. Following the inpatient alcohol rehab program it is advisable that the addict attend a long term sober facility such as a sober living home for a period up to one year. It is only then that the addict should be released back to their daily routine which should then have been changed dramatically and does not contain any use of alcohol. Relapse is possible but the likelihood of a relapse following long term alcohol rehab is far less than if the addict attends a short term rehabilitation program.
