Where Can I Find Free Long Term Drug Rehab?

Rehab can be a scary thing not only for reasons of what it means to the addict; leaving the security of the drug that gives them comfort; but also because the cost can be astronomical. The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) reports that, depending on length of stay, staff to patient ratio, size of program and services provided, the cost for in-patient or residential drug treatment can range from $3,754 to upwards of $26,000. These numbers, coupled with the difficulty and commitment it takes to become sober, can easily make an addict run the other way. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reports that about 40% of those in need of rehabilitation do not seek help because of the cost.

The good news: There are options!

This does not mean that it will not take a little bit of research and work on your part, but there are ways to receive financial assistance, and sometimes even free residential treatment for yourself or someone you love. Here are the first general steps you can take:

rehab for free

You can find free rehab centers!

  • Do your research and talk with your doctor as well as those closest to you and determine what type of treatment you will be interested in.
  • Locate facilities that you are interested in, and start calling them. Let them know what you are interested in and find out what they have to offer. Make sure to ask what your cost of treatment (as well as ongoing treatment) will be and if they offer any sort of grant, or scholarship for people with financial restraints. SAMHSA has a great locator on their website, but there are many others as well.
  • If you have insurance make sure you review your policy and determine whether or not, drug rehabilitation services are either all, or partly covered. Sometimes the best way to do this is to discuss your policy with the center, as they have trained people who deal with the insurance companies daily.

Now that you have determined all that and have more detailed information, you begin the specific research. There are scholarships and grants out there designed to help financially limited people get the help that they need. There are many different organizations out there that can provide this type of assistance and just as any other assistance program it is given on basis of specific situation and need.

Now it’s time to get back on the phone. Once you’ve located a few get in contact with them. Some of the organizations that provide rehab scholarships only work with certain centers, they will be able to provide more information on this. Also, you will be able discuss more of your financial situation in depth with you and let you know what they may be able to do for you. If the organization is unable to assist you directly, they will more than likely be able to provide you with other outside resources to get in contact with.

Although it will take research and effort, breaking free of drug addiction can save your life. There are many options out there for the ones unable to pay, so don’t get discouraged you can receive the help you deserve.
