Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a common type of treatment for a patient with an anxiety disorder. This treatment can be done in either an outpatient or inpatient rehab setting. CBT, as it is commonly called helps the patient to identify and change specific thoughts or patterns of thinking that tend to increase their anxiety The treatment will teach them the triggers and how to respond to them allowing the person to learn a way of modifying the anxiety as it comes on. It requires that the patient put an emphasis on how one thinks about anxiety and what behavior skills are needed to cope with it. In most cases according to the statistics some patients begin to see results in 12-16 weeks as an outpatient.
Exposure Therapy
This type of therapy would only be done in a very controlled environment. The patient is gradually exposed to certain situations that cause them anxiety. The purpose of this is to slowly desensitize them to those triggers until they become manageable, or even completely eliminated. The end result being that the patient has less panic or less anxiety attacks over time.
Residential Treatment
Treatment for an anxiety disorder can be completed through outpatient rehab although some or in extreme cases it may benefit the patient to attend inpatient rehab for anxiety. Inpatient rehab may provide some additional benefits to the patient going through this difficulty. In a residential rehab center, there may even be a dietitian on staff that can help you learn ways to become healthier. Sometimes your anxiety disorder can involve issues with physical symptoms such as your stomach and working with the dietitian may help with those problems. You will also have the opportunity to be with other people who have the same emotional concerns as you, and these people can provide support and friendship. Upon completion of your treatment, many facilities will assist in providing a plan to help you in your transition from inpatient to outpatient treatment.
Treatment for your anxiety disorder as with any treatment has to be one you are comfortable with. It is important to know that there are many options available to you as you embark on the journey for rehab and you should investigate all options before making your decision.
