10 Questions to Ask a Rehab Center

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, rehab centers are one of the better ways to break an addiction. Unfortunately, not all rehab centers are the same in quality and services. You should ask some questions before signing an intake contract and entering a rehab center. These questions should be an important part of your intake interview so that you can judge whether a rehab center is the right one for you.

1. Ask What Programs they Have Available

It is important to make sure the center’s programs are aligned with what you want to accomplish. A medication management facility would not be a good choice if you do not intend to use medication to help your addiction.

2. Can Your Treatment Goals be accomplished in this Rehab?

It is very important to know whether the treatment center knows and can accomplish your goals. This is one of the most important things to ask because your goals and your recovery should come first.

3. Does the Facility Accept your form of Payment?

There are many ways to pay for rehab. Insurance will sometimes help cover the costs, as will grants and other government aid. It is important to establish how you will pay for rehab before committing to one.

4. Is the Facility Well Staffed?

If you feel like group counseling will help you, make sure they offer it before entering a facility.

The patient to staff ratio should be low enough for you to gain the individual attention you need. Most facilities are happy to tell you their staff to client ratio.

5. What are the Rules Regarding Family and Friend Visits?

Family and friends are crucial to recovery. It is good to know whether you will have access to them while you are in rehab and if they will receive counseling with you.

6. What are the Rules of the Rehab?

Some rehab centers have very specific rules and guidelines. You will be required to obey these rules while you are there. It is a good idea to know them and know if you can abide by them while you are there.

7. What Types of Counseling do They Offer?

They should offer multiple forms of counseling since not every counseling method works for every person. If they only offer one type of counseling, make sure that type is one that will work for you.

8. Ask What Amenities the Rehab Offers

Sometimes it is the little things that help you get through withdrawal. It is important to know what extra help you will have while you are recovering.

9. Ask about Medication Management or Medication Assisted Withdrawal Programs

If you want medication assisted withdrawal, it is important to make sure that they have it. If you do not want medication offered, then it is good to know that they will respect your wishes.

10. Ask How they Plan on Helping You

You should always know what a rehab center plans to do to help you. They should be able to develop a treatment plan that suits your needs and requirements.
