Factors to Consider When Choosing a Rehab Center

Let us help you choose a rehab center!

Let us help you choose a rehab center!

The decision to attend a rehab center for treatment of drug or alcohol addiction may be the most important decision you ever make. Of course you want to assure that you make the best decision and that you choose the best rehab center for you, but how do you do that? What factors should be considered when choosing a rehab center for treatment of drug or alcohol addiction? Before you begin to search for the best rehab center for your treatment think about the factors that are most important to you.

Important Factors in Choosing a Rehab Center

What type of condition do you need treatment for and is it severe? While an addiction to alcohol or drugs is always something that requires immediate attention and treatment, some levels or types of addictions are far worse than others. In the most serious cases of drug or alcohol addiction you may be a threat to yourself or to others. For extreme cases of drug or alcohol addiction inpatient treatment at a rehab center may be required and it may also be necessary to assume the services of a rehab center that provides detoxification treatment.

Do you have special needs that should be addressed? If you are handicapped in some way then you should search for a rehab center that can accommodate your special needs appropriately. Other special needs may include a restricted diet such as a vegan or vegetarian diet, or if you have diabetes or another condition you will want to assure that the rehab center that you choose can accommodate your needs. Talk to the rehab center director about any special needs that you have and how they will accommodate those needs. Also discuss with the director of the rehab center the credentials of the staff in terms of your needs. If you are diabetic then you will want to assure that the staff is versed and educated on the condition.

What’s your budget? Some rehab centers accept insurance and some don’t. If you have insurance that will cover some or all of the cost of your attending drug or alcohol rehab then you will want to find a rehab center that accepts your particular insurance. The type of insurance that you have may narrow down the scope of the rehab centers that you have to choose from. You may also talk to family and friends about the cost of drug or alcohol rehab and see if you can get financial assistance in that way. While you may wish to attend a luxury rehab center, this may not be a feasible option based on your current budget.

Where do you want to be? Location is another important factor to consider when choosing a rehab center. It may be beneficial to attend a rehab center that is close to home but this can also prove detrimental if you have bad influences around you that can quickly bring you down. In most cases, it is best to attend a rehab center that is distanced from your home but if you have ties to the community or to home such as children then it may be necessary to stay closer rather than farther away.

Other Questions You Should Ask When Choosing a Rehab Center

  • How long will you stay?
  • How much will treatment cost?
  • What type of accreditation does the facility have and what education credentials do staff carry?
  • What type of programs are offered at the facility and how do these programs relate to your treatment?
  • Will follow up care be provided?
  • What type of treatment philosophy does the center and staff have?
  • Is there a waiting list and if so how long is my expected wait before being accepted for treatment?
  • How does the facility differ from other facilities that provide treatment for similar conditions?
