Support Both During and After Drug Rehab

Getting the support you need after and during drug rehab can save your life!

Getting the support you need after and during drug rehab can save your life!

Drug rehab centers provide a safe place for individuals who are addicted to drugs to begin the healing and recovery phases that are necessary for overcoming addiction. Support is one of the most vital aspects of any solid drug rehab program and can make the difference between whether or not an individual makes it through drug rehab and remain sober – or they don’t. You can get support both during drug rehab and after drug rehab from a number of different people and places. Here’s a look at just a few of the support methods and mechanisms that you can expect to find both during and after drug rehab.

Family Support During and After Drug Rehab

When you first go into drug rehab you can count on your family to support your decision to get help. In most cases, the family members of those in drug rehab are highly supportive of their decision because it means that the individual will one day overcome the addiction that in many cases has caused countless problems for the family. You should prepare to lean on your family for moral support while you are in drug rehab and you can continue to count on your family to support you after drug rehab.

If you are reluctant to turn to your family members for moral support because they have turned you down in the past, consider the option of having them come into drug rehab with you for some family counseling. Often times, addiction causes damage to the family support system and the only way to overcome it is for all members of the family to seek help. Many drug rehab centers provide family counseling and therapy programs that will help you to rebuild the relationship with your loved ones and foster a more supportive environment for you post drug rehab.

Support from Social Networks After Drug Rehab

In most cases you will have limited or no access to outside sources for quite some time aside from telephone calls when you are in drug rehab so it’s important that you do not immediately count on social networks for support when you are in treatment unless you are counting on the group that you are in treatment with for support. However, once you have completed drug rehab you can count on various social support networks such as your church or civic organization, and various support groups around the community such as AA or NA groups.

Support in Sober Living Homes after Drug Rehab

Finally, if you have completed a drug rehab program and you don’t have much support at home or you don’t have a place to live then you can consider a sober living home for your means of both housing and support. Sober living homes provide a safe alternative to moving back home into an environment that may not be supportive of your newfound sobriety and they provide you with a drug free location where you can relate with others who also have completed drug rehab and are looking for a supportive environment. Most times you will continue to receive counseling while you are in a sober living home so you can expect to receive additional support via these avenues as well.
