Do Free Rehabilitation Centers Provide Good Treatment?

Free Rehab is Quality Rehab

addiction treatment for free

Free rehab centers are not too good to be true. They really exist and can help you recover from addiction.

While many individuals consider free rehabilitation centers to be less effective than more expensive ones, the former are actually just as likely to provide good treatment. In fact, some complimentary facilities may provide better treatment than other, more expensive centers. It all depends on the specific program chosen. That is why you should spend extra time researching the facility which you are planning to attend before you start receiving treatment there, regardless of whether it is inpatient- or outpatient-based.

According to SAMHSA, 4% of all rehab facilities in the country are completely free of charge to patients. While this is a small number, these centers often provide all the treatments an individual hoping to recover from drug addiction could possibly need. They provide all the methods proven to be effective, including medication, therapy, and other important and helpful programs like vocational counseling, resume building, nutritional classes, etc.

In addition, these centers sometimes offer programs that more expensive facilities do not. For example, “Facilities offering ‘all free’ care (51.6 percent) were more likely than those in the ‘partial free’ (30.5 percent) or ‘no free’ (20.6 percent) groups to offer nonhospital residential care.” In certain cases of drug abuse and addiction, this type of treatment is extremely necessary. Some patients suffer from extreme addictions and would not be able to avoid abusing drugs if they were not in a 24-hour facility; others need round-the-clock care for health effects caused by their drug abuse, withdrawal syndrome, or other issues associated with their addiction. The fact that free facilities are more likely to offer this option shows that they do provide beneficial treatment.

More Isn’t Always Better

Many expensive facilities may provide more treatment options as well as more luxuries to patients. However, this does not mean that they are better at treating their patients. In some cases, individuals who stay at these facilities are paying for fancier accommodations, gourmet food, access to swimming pools, and other nice but generally unnecessary frills. These amenities, while enjoyable, are not actual treatments for addiction, and a person is able to receive all the necessary methods in a facility that provides less expensive accommodations and still helps patients get better.

Expensive rehab facilities also often offer holistic treatment options which may be effective for certain patients but are not considered to be most effective by doctors. According to the NIDA, “Medication and behavioral therapy, especially when combined, are important elements of an overall therapeutic process that often begins with detoxification.” Free facilities provide these methods to all patients when applicable without charging them for the extra (and sometimes unnecessary) options.

Certain individuals must turn to free centers centers in order to attend rehab at all. But it is important to know that these facilities provide treatment that is just as effective as the type provided by more expensive rehab centers. Call 888-646-0635Who Answers? toll free for help finding the treatment you need.
