Alcohol abuse is dangerous for numerous reasons, and it is illegal for people to drink under the age of 21 because alcohol impairs a person’s’ brain chemicals in various ways, which can result in a person engaging is risky and dangerous activities.

When people abuse alcohol their judgment becomes impaired as well as their coordination. Teenagers who are intoxicated by alcohol can make poor decisions that put their life in danger as well as the lives of people around them. Teenagers are more likely to engage in risky sexual situations when they are under the influence of alcohol and are more likely to drink while driving, these types of activities can result in the spread of diseases, and in more accidental deaths occurring.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2008, more than 190,000 people under the age of 21 visited an emergency room for alcohol-related injuries. In addition, 5,000 people under the age of 21 die every year from alcohol related homicides, car crashes, suicides, alcohol poisoning, and other alcohol related injuries such as drowning, falls, and burns.

Rehab Centers for Teenage Alcohol Abuse

If a teenager is abusing alcohol or has developed an addiction to alcohol, they should get help from an alcohol abuse rehab center. There are rehab centers specifically available for teenagers, and when a teenager is suffering from an alcohol abuse problem, they will most likely want to receive treatment with other teenagers.

Teenage treatment will differ from adult treatment in the way of medication doses and in therapy practices. Therapy plays a major role in alcohol addiction recovery since addiction is a chronic brain disease, and it is import that a teenager is receiving the right types of therapy to help them learn to manage their alcohol abuse or addiction problem.
