Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation Centers
Multiple Sclerosis is a nervous system disorder in which the spinal cord and the brain have difficulty communicating due to nerve damage. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects more women than men but the causes of the disease are unknown though researchers believe it may have to do with genetics and early life environmental factors.
Some of the most common symptoms of MS include memory loss, poor concentration, attention deficits and difficulty with balance and coordination. Additional symptoms of MS include depression, paranoia, and reduced bladder function as well as sexual dysfunction. There are a few different types of MS and based on the type of Multiple Sclerosis that a person has there can be more symptoms associated with the condition.
Most Multiple Sclerosis symptoms can be controlled early on with rehabilitation and therapy. Multiple Sclerosis rehabilitation includes various medications that can be used to treat fatigue, emotional outbursts, and coordination problems. Most people who are diagnosed with MS will require Multiple Sclerosis rehabilitation in order to reduce the speed at which MS progresses and to prolong function and prevent disability.
Various physical rehabilitation services are offered to patients who have MS. Occupational therapists and speech language pathologists will also work with MS patients to help them regain mobility, improve speech and maintain independence as much as possible. Additionally, Multiple Sclerosis rehabilitation centers may also provide psychologists that can help MS patients learn to cope with the mental pains and disruptions associated with this disorder.
