Top Alcohol Rehab Programs for Women

recovery for women

There are alcohol addiction rehab programs specifically for women which focus on issues specific to women, helping facilitate recovery.

There are various programs available to people to help them overcome alcohol addiction, however some people are more successful in gender based programs. Some women heal better around other women, and because of this, there are various alcohol rehab programs that are specifically designed with women in mind.

About Alcohol Addiction and Women

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, women have a higher risk than men for developing alcohol abuse problems. When alcohol is consumed, it passes through the digestive tract and is dispersed in the water in a drinker’s body. The more water in a person’s body, the more diluted the alcohol will be. Since men typically weigh more than women and women have less water in their bodies than men, a woman’s brain and other organs are exposed to more alcohol than men.

When a woman develops an alcohol addiction, she will most likely begin to develop tolerance levels to alcohol as well. An alcohol addiction will cause a woman to compulsively seek out and drink alcohol, and with the more she drinks, the more her body will become used to the amount of alcohol she is consuming. Over time she will build a high tolerance to alcohol, meaning that she will need to consume more alcohol than she did before in order to feel the way she wants to feel.

In addition to alcohol tolerance forming, and alcohol addiction developing, it is likely that a woman will also develop a dependency to alcohol, which means that she will go through withdrawals every time she does not have enough alcohol in her body.

Women nowadays are the main money makers in their family and are the main parent raising children. Many women take on too much responsibility and for some women alcohol is a stress reliever. However, once an addiction forms a women may need help with overcoming her alcohol problem. Fortunately, there are thousands of programs available for people to help them with their alcohol addictions, and for women there are gender based programs that they can choose to go to.
