Treatment for Sexual Disorders

Sexual disorders include any disorder that is directly related to the sexual response cycle such as sexual dysfunctions, sexual arousal disorders and sexual pain disorders. There are a number of different types of sexual disorders that affect sexual response or sexual experiences and many people who suffer from these disorders will require assistance from doctors, therapists and rehab centers in order to be able to cope with the disorder and recover.

The most common types of sexual disorders are sexual dysfunction such as hypoactive sexual desire disorder or sexual aversion disorder. Other types of sexual disorders include premature ejaculation, male orgasmic disorder and dyspareunia which is a sexual pain disorder. Therapists and counselors as well as general doctors may all be able to help with sexual disorders depending on the extent, severity and type of the disorder.

Sexual disorders may occur as a result of fatigue, illness, prescription medications or from doing drugs or drinking alcohol. People who suffer from sexual disorders that result from the use of drugs or alcohol should first get help for their addiction and then in many cases the sexual disorder will dissipate. For those suffering from sexual disorders that result from a mental condition such as gender identity disorder or other types of sexual disorders, psychiatric treatment and counseling may be necessary.

Rehab centers offer various types of treatment for sexual disorders. For people who suffer from sexual disorders that are drug and alcohol related, the underlying cause of the disorder must first be treated and then the therapists or counselors at rehab centers will work on treating the sexual disorder. For those who suffer from other types of sexual disorders that are not related to the use of drugs or alcohol, rehab centers may provide medication, therapy and or counseling that can treat the cause of the problem and allow the individual to live a normal life.
